Habitat for Humanity

Habitat for Humanity South Africa is a non-profit, non-governmental, Christian housing organisation dedicated to the elimination of poverty housing in South Africa and committed to making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action.

We welcome all people to join us as we build simple, decent, affordable houses in partnership with those who lack adequate shelter.

Since 1996, Habitat for Humanity South Africa has built almost 1 500 houses in the Western Cape, Kwazulu-Natal and Gauteng/North West provinces, providing shelter for 7 500 people across the country and bringing together people across racial, economic, cultural and social boundaries in a common journey of hope.

Activity description

We get involved in volunteer opportunities offered by Habitat to raise funds and build houses for previously disadvantaged people. Common Ground Church is also committed to building one house per year during the Building on Faith week. This involves raising funds for the cost of the house and mobilising volunteers to build it.

Volunteer needs

No special skills needed! We just need people who are willing to roll up their sleeves and get building. Time commitments are typically a Saturday morning and afternoon, except for the week of Building on Faith when building is done during the week as well. We also need people who can assist us in raising funds for the house we build during Building on Faith
