Sending your roots down to the stream

So often in the last months of the year we step into survival - mode. But what if we’re meant to thrive, not just survive, at this time of the year, in fact all year round?

Jeremiah 17:5-8 likens us to a tree. The life of a tree consists of

1) what’s above the ground for all to see and
2) what’s below the ground, the unseen root system that drinks in water.

In the same way, our lives consist of two selves. There’s the
above-the-ground public self, which includes roles we play in life – work, study, church activities, relationships, hobbies and more.

Then there’s the below-the-ground hidden self. This consists of our motivations, the quality of our relationship with God, and the degree to which we have learnt to pace and deeply replenish ourselves.

We need to pause. Wherever you are on the spiritual journey, come learn to take the time to ‘send down your roots by the stream’ (Jer 17:8).
